Description: Antique FLINTLOCK Smoothbore Musket .64 18 Gauge FOWLER Birmingham British English Trade Musket to the New World Here we present an antique Engraved British Flintlock Fowling Piece, made circa the early 1800s likely in Birmingham, England. This would have been very handy to carry for the forester or hunter. It was the epitome of a practical shotgun or musket that would have been used to put food on the table or protect the homestead from unwanted intruders, including both man and beast. With its versatile smooth bore it would have been usable with .64 caliber ball, shot, or buck and ball. Likely a trade gun from Britain to the New World. The overall condition is good. Original patina. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock shows use and weathering and remains solid. The bottom of the stock forward of the trigger guard has a brass plate mounted with hand engraved designs and initials “M.H.S.” (the last initial is a bit obscured). The top of the barrel is marked “LONDON”. The left side of the barrel has Birmingham proofs. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 43-1/4 inches.
