Berks County Flintlock Smooth Rifle
Description: A rare Berks County Flintlock 50 caliber Smooth rifle that has the original "London Warrented" flintlock. Many guns of this school were made with rifle sights and a smooth bore. This allowed the hunter to use shot or ball, depending on the game he was after. The smooth bore was accurate as a rifle to 50 to 75 yards. This gun has a 42 1/2 inch barrel held in place by four pins, is 58 inches overall in length and weighs 9 pounds. It has a curley maple stock and brass trim. The patch box has an acorn tip and the side plates are pinned in place. The patch box release is on the butt plate, The butt plate extention has three groves on the forward end. The patch box extention and butt plate decoration are very simular to rifle decoration simular to guns attributed to Wolfgang Haga. It is possible that the maker of this gun was trained by Wolfgang Haga. The rifle has the typical Roman Nose and curved stock underbelly. The gun is unmarked as were many guns made in this area. This is a late rifle probably made during 1805 to 1815 period. It has a heavy brass trigger guard and a single trigger. The side plate is plain with an unusual profile. It is unusual as it has it's original lock. The rifle has had some repair to the wrist area and has been very well done. The wooden ramrod has a worm on the end to assist in the cleaning of the gun.The pictures are part of the discription. $50.00 Shipping via Priority Mail SOLD Antique: Yes |
