c1840s EVANSVILLE INDIANA Antique LONG RIFLE by CHARLES KELLER .44 Striped
Game Scene Engraved Lock; Hand-Painted Stock
Description: c1840s EVANSVILLE INDIANA Antique LONG RIFLE by CHARLES KELLER .44 Striped Game Scene Engraved Lock; Hand-Painted Stock Here we present an antique Charles Keller Half Stock Percussion Long Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century in Evansville, Indiana. Charles Keller was a gun and lock smith on Second Street. He advertised in the Evansville Journal (1846): “Guns repaired on most reasonable terms” and “All kinds of locks made and repaired” as well as “Any kind of fine iron work done on reasonable terms”. He is said to have been active into the 1870s and had another shop located on South Main Street. This rifle was finely crafted. It features a game scene engraved lock, double set triggers, 36 ½” signed heavy octagonal barrel in .44 caliber, half-length tiger stripe painted stock, crescent butt plate, fenced percussion nipple, and German silver wedge escutcheons and forearm cap. This would have been a working man’s rifle in its day, great for the deer woods and certainly capable of providing for the table and defending the homestead. The overall condition is fine. Excellent action. The bore is in great shape: reflective with sharp rifling. This example sports a solid stock and has a nice smooth finish. Painted tiger stripe pattern. Clear markings. Game scene engraved lock. This is an incredible piece that has been remarkably preserved! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 36-1/2 inches. Caliber: .44 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3200 #228125 SOLD Antique: Yes |
