M.M. Maslin American long rifle (1800s)
Description: American Long Rifle with M. M. Maslin marked lock. Michael M. Maslin was a lock maker located in Baltimore from 1822 to 1833, and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1833 to 1847. While M.M. Maslin locks are rare… I have not seen any he made that are like this one . From what I’ve seen his locks are more traditional like the Springfield or Harpers ferry of the 1800s, this lock is longer and reaches down the butt of the stock. This rifle features a single trigger full-length 43 inch octagon barrel. Total lengthier the rifle is 58 inches. The lock is marked “M.M. Maslin” on top of “Warranted”. Striped grain in walnut full-length stock which has some cracking near muzzle. The barrel is marked J M on top with another stamp near lock that is illegible. The muzzle has very unique markings and the octagon barrel has a unique rifling that appears to be in good shape for its age. The overall condition is fair and it is fully functional. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: M.M. Maslin Model: Percussion long rifle Barrel Length: 43” Condition: Fair Metal Condition: Grey patina Wood Condition: Slightly dinged, worn Bore Condition: Good Barrel Type: Octagon Triggers: Single Stock: Full Finish: Walnut striped Manufacture Date: 1822-1847 Engraving: MM Maslin (Warrented) |
