Description: Rare BRASS GOLCHER LOCK Antique .38 Cal Half Stock PERCUSSION LONG RIFLE Pennsylvania Rifle with GOLCHER Lock! Here we present an antique Half Stock Percussion Long Rifle with the Rare Brass Golcher Lock, made circa the mid-19th Century. Its stout octagonal barrel is in .38 caliber, large enough to take medium to large sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. Rifle manufacture in the mid-to-late 19th Century was rapidly changing over from thousands of craftsman all over the United States and on the Frontier making and selling their wares, to the large factories with standardized assembly lines and modern manufacturing techniques. This one features brass hardware throughout and decorative plaques throughout, including a large arrow on the bottom of the forearm. The overall condition is good. The action functions, but the trigger return spring is weak. The bore is good. “JAS GOLCHER/PHILADA” is engraved on the lock. Here is an American plains style rifle to collect and display!
