Description:
This nice clean Blunderbuss is signed Blair on the lock and has DB makers mark between the Ordnance private proofs on the barrel. David Blair was a gunmaker in Birmingham and was active from at least 1782 until his death in 1814. The barrel is 12 Bore and the bore flares to approximately 1 1/2 inches at the muzzle. The mounts are brass and have light foliate engraving and a stylized acorn trigger guard finial. Very good overall with attractive aged patina on the brass half octagon 12 inch long barrel and mounts, silver gray and brown patina on the lock with a few chips and cracks in the stock, and mild wear. Mechanically functions.
