Description: EARLY 1800s Short FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS Early 19th Century “Close Range” Weapon with Leather Sling! Here we present an early 19th Century Antique Flintlock Blunderbuss. The blunderbuss was a devastating close-range weapon, comparable to modern “riot” or “coach” type shotguns, useful for defense or offense but not for hunting or sporting purposes. They were used on the seas to forcibly board other vessels or to repel unwanted boarders and were also good for defending fortified positions. This one bears no visible markings, though it certainly seems influenced by British guns of the same period. It may very well be from Colonial Southeast Asia where the British East India Company was in operation. The overall condition is good. The iron parts are dark gray with age. The stock is likewise dark. There is a screw missing from the barrel tang and one of the keys that secures the barrel to the stock. The bore is smooth. The action remains strong.
