Flintlock Blunderbuss
Description: Flintlock Blunderbuss 1600’s-1700’s Flintlock Blunderbuss with a 24” barrel, 2” muzzle flare and an overall length of 40”. At one time broken and repaired using parts from a 1777 Charleville musket. Stock appears to be hand made at the time of repair and has been customized to fit the lock plate and trigger guard. Lock Plate reads “Manuf de Charleville.” There was a later repair done to fix a broken forestock. Break may have occurred do to a weak point created by a yolk and pinion. Blunderbusses of this size were generally mounted on the side of small boats or walls of forts and acted as either a signal canon or a line of defense against oncoming enemies.
