INLAID Antique Ornate OTTOMAN/ASIAN Style “MIQUELET” Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS
Historic Naval Ship Boarding and Coach Gun!
Description: INLAID Antique Ornate OTTOMAN/ASIAN Style “MIQUELET” Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS Historic Naval Ship Boarding and Coach Gun! Here we present an antique Ornate Ottoman/Asian Style Flintlock Blunderbuss, made circa the early 1800s. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel flared at the muzzle and frequently throughout the entire bore and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range. A blunderbuss in handgun form was called a Dragon, and it is from this that the term “Dragoon” evolved. The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy and devastating weapon at close range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for naval boarding or defending vessels. The Miquelet was a tough, reliable early flintlock that played a big role across Europe and the Ottoman Empire from the 17th century all the way into the early 20th. It was developed in Spain and had a distinctive design—combining a flint-against-steel ignition with a clever built-in pan cover. This innovation made the Miquelet a real game-changer in firearm technology. It was widely used in Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Balkans, North Africa, and the Ottoman territories. It helped pave the way for the modern flintlock we’re familiar with today. The Miquelet’s clever design and lasting influence make it a fascinating piece of history—a true step forward in the evolution of firearms. The overall condition is very good. Dark patina on the barrel and lock. Robust action, and remains in its original configuration. Obfuscated markings on the lock and the breech. This piece weighs in about 13 ½ pounds. Nice Ivory inlaid decorations throughout the stock. The stock is in very good shape and is in good condition. The bore is dark and remains good with a large flared muzzle. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 25 inches. Caliber: Approximately 1 inch bore flaring to 2-1/3 inches. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
