ORNATELY CARVED Flintlock “DUCKBILL” BLUNDERBUSS European Antique Pirate Devastating Close Range Weapon for Deck Clearing!
Description: ORNATELY CARVED Flintlock “DUCKBILL” BLUNDERBUSS European Antique Pirate Devastating Close Range Weapon for Deck Clearing! Here we present an antique Ornately Carved Flintlock “Duckbill” Blunderbuss, made circa the 1700s. This one has an ovate, rather than simply round muzzle, which would have been intended to constrict the shot pattern vertically while encouraging the pattern to spread horizontally for maximal effect across a broad area. This would have been optimal for tasks such as deck clearing on a ship. This piece is fascinating in many respects, not the least of which is trying to ascertain its country of origin. There are no recognizable proof marks, however it does appear to have some British influence in the stock. There is a resemblance to the Brown Bess stocks, which is present in other blunderbusses confirmed British pieces we have had in the past. However, the stock has been carved with what might be characterized by a “seaweed” type of scroll. The stock is also fitted with ornately cast brass hardware that may a nice contrast against the very dark wood. The barrel begins in the octagonal shape and transitions to round just prior to the midpoint before flattening out at the muzzle. There are Latin letters across the top of the barrel flat, but what they convey is not clear. With the barrel dismounted, the underside reveals several stamped markings that are not entirely identifiable. The clearest of them looks like a rooster with the letter “N” in the center. The overall condition is very good. Strong, tight action. Good bore. Wonderfully carved stock with unusual floral designs. The markings atop the barrel are a bit faint. The ramrod is a single solid piece of iron. Here is a truly beautiful and unique must have blunderbuss for the collection. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 23 inches. Inside Muzzle Dimensions: 2 1/8 inches wide and 1 7/16 tall Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3715 #210171 SOLD Antique: Yes |
