SMALL, ORNATE Antique Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS
Carved & Wire Inlaid Circa the 19th Century
Here we present an antique Ornate Flintlock Blunderbuss “Knee” Pistol, made circa the 1800s. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel flared at the muzzle, used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range. The blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy and devastating weapon at close range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for naval boarding or defending vessels.
The condition is very good. The iron parts are dark with age. The stock is in great shape. The bore is dark. The action remains strong.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 10-1/4 inches.
Caliber: .58 inner dimension of narrowest point; nearly 2-inch bell
Overall condition as seen in photos.
