WAR of 1812 Era Antique BRASS BARRELED London Proofed FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS 200+ Year Old WAR of 1812 Close Range Weapon!
Description: WAR of 1812 Era Antique BRASS BARRELED London Proofed FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS 200+ Year Old WAR of 1812 Close Range Weapon! Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique British Flintlock Blunderbuss, made circa 1790 to 1813 in London, England. The barrel shows London proof marks along with an “IB” maker's mark. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel. They are flared at the muzzle, frequently throughout the entire bore, and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range. A blunderbuss in handgun form was called a Dragon, and it is from this that the term “Dragoon” evolved. The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy and devastating weapon at close range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for Naval boarding or defending vessels, stagecoach and messenger companies, home defense and more. The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy and devastating weapon at close range. It was capable of firing up to 20 buckshot in front of 120 grains of black powder, according to Spencer Tucker in “Almanac of American Military History, Volume 1”. This particular example is highly likely to have been used in the War of 1812 on the side that didn’t win! The overall condition is good. The action fully functions. Dark bore, good for its age. A few thin cracks are present on the buttstock around the plate. A sliver is missing from the tip of the right forend and the left side of the buttstock toe. Markings are legible. The ramrod is absent. A blunderbuss such as this is what most people imagine a pirate crew using to commandeer an unsuspecting ship! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 15-1/2 inches. Caliber: Bore measures approximately 1” and flares to 1-1/2 inch. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast.
