Beautiful Italian Blunderbuss
Description: A Beautiful Italian, folding-stock flintlock Blunderbuss, Bergamo, Italy, ca. first quarter 18th century. Weight: 4 ¾ Lbs. OAL: 35”. Fine 21 ½” barrel, tastefully sculpted and engraved with intricate floral brass inlays from the breech out to almost half its length then gracefully flared to an ellipsoidal muzzle. Original iron ramrod with iron worm on hidden end. Breech tang is nicely engraved with a textured gold ormolu background. Superb lock is fully functional and intricately and deeply chiseled and engraved. Side plate deeply chiseled with 11 piercings. Superb iron mounts all deep relief-sculpted en suite with coat-of-arms on the buttplate which could be that of the Martinengo family, a noble family from the namesake town in the province of Bergamo, Italy. Highly figured folding stock extensively silver wire-inlaid and relief carved with mother-of-pearl escutcheon at the wrist.
