1870s Antique Frank Wesson TWO-TRIGGER .22 Rifle
Description: 1870s Antique Frank Wesson TWO-TRIGGER .22 Rifle Single Shot Rifle with Period Modifications Here we present an antique Frank Wesson Two-Trigger Single Shot Rifle in .22 Rimfire, made circa 1863-1875 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Only about 5,000 were made from the end of the Civil War to the mid-1870s. Frank Wesson was the younger brother of Daniel B. Wesson, of Smith & Wesson, as well as Edwin Wesson, who was also a highly-esteemed gunsmith in the mid-to-late-1800s. The fame of his family’s name was not lost on Frank, but he was, in fact, a prolific firearms designer and maker in his own right. He was granted patents in 1859 and began producing rifles of this two-trigger configuration. The Civil War was a fantastic opportunity for many different inventors and over 20 different carbines were used during the conflict on the Union side. Frank Wesson made a version of his rifle in a .44 caliber rimfire carbine format that was specifically geared for Cavalry troops. He also made carbines and rifles in various calibers for the commercial market. The rifle is an example of a Second Type in the tiny .22 Rimfire. The barrel is marked with “FRANK WESSON WORCESTER MASS.” With patent dates of 1850 and 1862. This rifle has had a large trigger guard added in the shape of a lever action rifle’s lever. Front and rear sights have been replaced. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a light gray patina. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in good shape. The bore is clear with visible rifling. The action on this rifle is functional. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 24-1/4 inches. Caliber: .22 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $875 #7260 SOLD Antique: Yes |
