Antique Civil War Massachusetts Arms Smith Union Carbine
Description: Antique Civil War Massachusetts Arms Co. Smith UNION Carbine Union Cavalry Carbine used by 3rd W.Va, 7th, 11th Ill., 1st Conn., 17th Penna., 6th, 9th Ohio, and 1st Mass. Here we present an antique Smith Carbine, made circa 1861-65 in Massachusetts by three different companies, which are as follows: American Machine Works, Massachusetts Arms Co. and American Arms Co. This carbine was designed and patented by Gilbert Smith and was used extensively by Union cavalry. Regiments known to have used this carbine include: 3rd W.Va, 7th, 11th Ill., 1st Conn., 17th Penna., 6th, 9th Ohio, and 1st Mass. This specimen was produced by the Mass. Arms Co. and features scarce sling swivels on the back of the butt and under the barrel band. This carbine was certainly not spared combat, judging by its appearance. The walnut stock shows hard use and the iron components are somewhat pitted, but it all lends itself to having that Civil War “been there, done that” look. This would make a fantastic carbine for display in any collection. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 21 5/8 inches in length. Caliber: .50 percussion Bore is in good condition and the firearm is in good working order. Overall condition as seen in photos. Make this scarce Civil War carbine a part of your collection.
