SCARCE GERMAN Made Military Conversion Rifle

Here we present a scarce antique Uruguayan Contract Mauser Model 71/94 Rifle, originally made in 1878 in Germany, then converted to 6.5x53.5mm Rimmed (also known as 6.5 Daudeteau) at the arsenal at St. Denis in France, circa 1894. This was done to update the rifle to more modern military philosophy of small caliber, higher velocity projectiles. After the conversion, France sold these rifles to Uruguay via a merchant tailor by the name of Dovitiis. Not many of these were purchased before Uruguay adopted something entirely different, probably due to the fact that it was still a single shot rifle and that ammunition they were sold had hard primers.

The rifle is marked “MOD. 71.” and bears Gothic Prussian proof marks. The receiver is dated “1877/1878”, the original manufacture date. The chamber is marked in fancy script with the signature of the French arsenal at St. Denis, which made the caliber conversion.

The overall condition is good. Robust action with a smooth bolt pull. Bright, rifled bore. Some numbers are mis-matched. The stock is solid throughout! Visible markings are sharp! Here is a very nice and scarce Mauser for your collection!
