Description: I'm selling my collection. Here is an Antique U.S. Springfield 1868 Trapdoor comes with its original bayonet & leather sling. Antique no FFL required. It’s chambered for the powerful centerfire .50-70 450 Goverment Cartridge (.50 cal.450 gr. bullet; 70gr. black powder) 8-10 rounds per minute. 32.1/2" barrel with an excellent shinny bore with sharp rifling. Serial number: "39913". U.S military, marked date 1870. The Model 1868 was the first trapdoor conversion to use the cartridge extractor, over 50,000 Model 1868 rifles were manufactured, chambered for .50-70 450 cartridge, this model served as the basis for the definitive Springfield Model 1873 series of rifles in .45.70 caliber, which were adopted in 1873 as the standard military long arm of the U.S. armed forces for thenext 20 years. The original finish is turning grey patina. Used U.S. & French Army, American Indian War & in the the Franco-Prussian War. What is not mentioned in the description can be seen on the pictures. I haven't shot this one. I described it to the best of my knowledge. Please don't ask for extra pictures and the old cartridges on the pictures are not for sale.
