Antique US SPRINGFIELD Model 1869 TRAPDOOR .50-60 RF GOVT Cal. CADET Rifle
RARE! 1 of 3,400 Produced at the SPRINGFIELD ARMORY
Description: Antique US SPRINGFIELD Model 1869 TRAPDOOR .50-60 RF GOVT Cal. CADET Rifle RARE! 1 of 3,400 Produced at the SPRINGFIELD ARMORY Here we present an antique U.S. Springfield Model 1869 Trapdoor Cadet Rifle with a socket bayonet, with the majority being made by the Springfield Armory between April and September of 1871. However, 300 were produced in the first quarter of 1870. This example is likely one of those three hundred as it has the breech dated 1870. After the Civil War, the War Department wanted a breech-loading rifle. To be specific, it wanted a breech-loading rifle that would chamber a self-primed, metallic cartridge. Amazingly, despite the adoption of the ill-fated Model 1882 Chaffee-Reese Bolt Action Magazine Rifle, new models of trapdoor rifles continued to be produced and used all the way through the mid-1890s, until finally, the Krag-Jorgensen was adopted. The U.S. continued to see unrest and conflict with the displaced Native Americans during this time, including the Wounded Knee Massacre on December 29th, 1890. Trapdoors continued to see use all the way through the Spanish American War. As mentioned above, the Model 1869 Cadet Rifle was a shortened version of the Springfield Model 1868. It had a 29-5/8 inch barrel, compared to the 32-5/8 inch barrel of the Model 1868, and had an overall length of 48.8 inches. The Model 1869 was produced using Model 1868 receivers and breech blocks but used a stock that was manufactured specifically for the Model 1869. The Model 1869 had a narrower buttplate and the stock around the barrel was thinner than on the Model 1868. This model has its own sequence of serial numbers, running from 1 to approximately 3422. The overall condition is very good. Gray patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with nice rifling. The stock shows use and remains in good condition, showing inspection markings. Numbers match. The bayonet fits like a glove and remains in very good condition. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 29-5/8 inches. Caliber: .50-60 RF Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1750 #228238 SOLD Antique: Yes |
