Colt Lightning Medium Frame Slide Action .38-40 caliber rifle. Overall length is 42½”. The 26” octagon barrel, marked .38 caliber, has a good bore with good riflings. The barrel and magazine tube have approximately 85% blue. The frame has approximately 75% blue with wear on the tangs and receiver top. The wooden stock is very good with no cracks or chips. Old coach marks on the right side of the stock wrist area. The action functions correctly.  The barrel has 1883, 1885, 1886, and 1887 patent dates. This is a very nice .38-40 Lightning rifle that would be great companion piece to a .38-40 revolver, or in a Colt collection.
