This is your typical Spencer carbine with 2-piece walnut stocks, exposed hammer, post front sight, folding leaf rear sight, saddle ring and bar on the left side of the receiver, 7-shot mag tube that pulls out of the butt stock, 22" round barrel with 6-groove rifling, single barrel band, swivel on underside of butt stock, caliber 52 rimfire (56-56), top of receiver marked on 3 lines "SPENCER REPEATING/RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS./PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860" CONDITION: Excellent stocks with no splits, cracks or extra holes, retaining all of their original finish, having the original sling swivel intact in the bottom of the butt stock. Some patina remains on the sling bar mount, and some color remains on the barrel band, otherwise all the metal surfaces are about "in the white" with a bit of light gray. Shootable bore and properly functioning action, tight hammer spring with positive clicks and lock up on both half- and full-cock, properly functioning mag tube, original sights. The only detraction is someone cut a sighting groove in the top of the receiver right through the middle line of the address marking; not the first time I've encountered this and it won't be the last. Grades NRA Antique Very Good. Spencers on the "hit list" of the Springfield Research Survey are very hard to come by so don't let this one slip away!
