Navy Inspected Model 1879 Lee Arms Bolt Action
Description: Reduced Very scarce Lee Arms Model 1879 bolt action magazine rifle in .45-70. This rifle was part of the second batch purchased by the Navy prior to production being taken over by Remington (Remington-Lee magazine rifle). The rifle is in overall good plus antique condition. The barrels were finished Armory Bright and this one has a mottled bright appearance. A couple of spots of light corrosion, but not serious. The bore is bright and shiny, with well defined rifling. The stock is good plus, with no cracks or serious splinters missing. The stock has an arsenal patch on left side above magazine (see below). THE NEGATIVES: Rifle is missing its bolt. I believe a replacement could be found on a junked or cut down rifle. I just don't have time to search. Missing also are its rear sight, cleaning rod, rear barrel band, and magazine cut-off. The latter was removed when it was converted to single shot and its magazine filled with a block of wood. Possibly for training or military academy use. The magazine itself is very rare and worth half the asking price, even without its spring. A worthy project for someone. $850 + Shipping. Antique ships to your door. SOLD Antique: Yes |
