Sharps & Hankins Carbine Converted to Forager
Description: SOLD A,rare gun to find for restoration or parts, serial #1175, about 20 bore, 32” barrel with an oxidized bore. This is an interesting period conversion utilizing an old musket barrel mated to a Sharps & Hankins action. The metal surfaces are mostly a mottled gray-brown patina showing overall moderate oxidation staining and old pitting. The sides of the barrel show some old inspector or proof marks, the barrel is un-sighted showing a vacant dovetail at the rear and the original Sharps markings on the frame are quite soft. There is a later added “U.S.” stamp in non-serif font on the left side frame. The screw heads show light slot wear and a number of them are replacements. The smooth walnut stock rates fair as cleaned showing repaired large cracks at the tang and right side wrist and the wood is shy of the tangs. There is sling swivel hardware behind the upper tang and the buttplate is a replacement fashioned from thin brass. The lever lock shows a small piece of spring steel added onto it to elongate it, the original firing pin bushing hole has been filled-in and a new one prepared but not finished below it and no firing pin is present. The hammer block safety is missing and the mainspring appears to be missing or broken as there is no tension on the hammer. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting. To buy a gun from me you must get a direct email for me, with details, and shipping cost. We don’t have a web site .I prefer money orders or a check. Item ships when funds come in. I try to keep guns affordable, which means I make less money than most dealers. You won’t get altitude sickness, or nose bleed, with my prices! I consistently have the best selection of older guns If you attempt to buy, you must still contact us for details . Best to email to buy. Sometimes a local person can stop buy and purchase before the gun is removed. Sometimes not home to get calls. Some guns are required shipment to a gun dealer near you for a transfer to you when it arrives. Otherwise many older or black powder guns ship to your door. With the widest selection of older guns at great prices, We don’t have a store, and sell on the internet only. I’m easy to get along with. Thank You SOLD Antique: Yes |
