Special Order Winchester Model 1885 Low Wall Rifle.
Description: Special order Winchester Model 1885 Low wall rifle in 25-20WCF caliber with a half octagon No. 1 barrel with a fare bore that shows only remains of rifling with pitting the full length. This is a rather attractive rifle with a nice exterior look, the barrel a mix of plum brown and a dark gray blue, with wear to pewter at the muzzle and sharp edges of the octagon section. There are scattered oxidation stains primarily to the round section with a handful of handling marks and dings scattered about the surface and an area of light pitting. The frame and attendant parts are a pleasing smooth smoky mottled case hardened patina with some traces of case colors. The buttstock rates very good to fine showing a bit of older added finish and a couple of repares here and there. The buttstock wears an original Schuetzen or Swiss style brass buttplate retaining about 95% of it's original nickel plate. The forend rates very good with the ebony tip in place and a few handling marks. Sighted with a Lyman front sight and the original Rocky Mountain rear sight. This would be an excellent candidate for a professional relining to a caliber of your choice. Made in 1890, so no paperwork is required. $50.00 Shipping via Priority Mail. SOLD Antique: Yes |
