WINCHESTER MODEL 1894 TAKEDOWN, .38-55, FIRST YEAR PRODUCTION "ANTIQUE
Description:
ANTIQUE, No License Needed (except New York and New Jersey) WINCHESTER model 1894 Takedown in .38-55, made in 1894, first production year! This rifle has seen some use over its 132 years. It has all original parts and retains the original walnut stock. The buttstock has a shotgun buttplate and has been cracked and repaired many, many years ago. The forend has a crack on the left side that has recently been re-glued and is good to go.
Since I have not shot this rifle in forever, I took it out this morning, loaded the magazine, and fired 6 rounds to make sure that it functioned properly. There were no issues with loading, feeding, firing, or ejection of the empty cartridges. The bore is fairly rough but has discernable riflings. I shot at rocks about 50 yards downrange and hit every one. They were around 10 inches in diameter. The takedown feature works well and has almost no play. The rear sight is missing the elevator. The overall metal finish is blue turning brown. There are no major dings in the metal.
The cool thing about this rifle is that it is a first year production, takedown rifle chambered in .38-55. Because it is an "Antique", there is no FFL required. It can be shipped directly to you. It would be a fun rifle to shoot with your children and grandchildren, and would give you an opportunity to tell them stories about life in the 19th century. In 1894, Grover Cleveland was President and Like President Trump, served two non-consecutive terms in office. Because of its unique features, this rifle is also a great cantidate for restoration, depending on how you feel about that.
Thanks for looking at the photos and reading my ramblings. The ammunition in the photos is not included, it is just for artistic license. Please contact me with any questions, Richard
