Belgian M.1831 Infantry Flintlock Rifled Musket 17.5mm Caliber SOLD
Description: Belgian M.1831 Infantry Flintlock Rifled Musket in 17.5mm caliber. This was the first newly manufactured musket of the Belgian army after Belgium became independent nation in 1830. This particular musket was manufactured in 1837 and is in great condition for its age. The right side of the buttstock displays the Belgian military property cartouche with "Crown over L" and "HA&C" with the date of acceptance "1837" in a circle. This is the marking for King Leopold I who reigned from 1831 to 1865. The stock is made of European walnut and extends the full length of the rifle. It is in great condition with a period era repair at the middle barrel band. The stock has not been sanded and has nice visible cartouches. The left side of the buttstock is scooped out for a cheek rest. There is a chip on the left side between the front and middle bands and a picture has been provided to show case this damage. The barrel is in good condition with no visible damage. The rifling can still be felt at the muzzle. There is a socket bayonet lug on the underside of the barrel near the muzzle. The lock functions beautifully and this musket still features the original flintlock action, which are difficult to find, as most of them were converted to percussion configuration starting in 1838. All of the metal parts feature a nice aged patina look to them. This is a beautiful rifled musket and would make an excellent addition to any antique military arms collection. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Liege Belgium Model: 1831 Serial Number: None Barrel Length: 42 Inch Condition: Very Good Metal Condition: Very Good Wood Condition: Good Bore Condition: Frosted with Rifling Action: Flintlock Manufacture Date: 1837 |
