This is a very nice looking circa 1750 Italian flintlock fowling piece. The overall length is approx. 56.5"". The approx. 41"" octagon to round approx. 60 caliber ""Spanish form"" barrel with Pistoia mark has a dark, smooth bore. The Pistoia marks still retain their original brass. The barrel is cleaned bright with evidence of old pitting. The lock is unmarked with a gooseneck cock and unbridled reshod frizzen. The lock plate is gray with evidence of old light pitting. the thumb piece features an Italian eagle with a rabbit in its talons. The silvered triggerguard mounts feature acanthus finials. The silvered mounts retain much original silver, now black with tarnish. The open work sideplate has a mythological creature. The figured full stock is carved with strap work on a pebbled ground. The stock carving is very good. The forend has been replaced from the rear ramrod pipe forward. This is an attractive Neapolitan fowling piece.
