"British Flintlock coach gun. Barrel and lock have no makers name. Barrel has proof marks of the Birmingham Proof House. Span at the muzzle is 2½". Barrel length is 16" with overall length of 32". This flintlock coach gun has a roller frizzen which dates to approximately 1810-1820. The brass parts have a very nice untouched patina. The stock is very good with no cracks or repairs. Coach guns were named for the coachman who tended the passengers entering or exiting the stage couch. They stored the luggage on top or in the “boot" as well. In the event of encountering a robber, the coachman would have his formidable “coach gun" to dispatch any Highwayman!
