This French Model 1822 musket was made by Pihet Frere (Pihet brothers) of Paris. The 40.5"" 69 caliber smooth bore barrel has a good bore with light roughness overall. The exterior of the barrel has a smooth brown and gray patina. The breech has a circular marking of 170K. The barrel tang is marked Mle 1822 with some parts indistinct. The lock is marked in script Paris over Pihet Frere. The Pihet brothers are documented as being in Paris in 1831. The lock, with matching internal parts, is a smooth gray and brown. It appears that this musket has been very expertly reconverted to flintlock using an original lock. The remaining furniture is a smooth brown. The stock is very good with issue dents and dings and no cracks or chips. The right side of the butt is marked from the buttplate forward TULLE followed by TULLE followed by a crown over M followed by the French rondel that is unreadable followed by an oval crown over V. The sling swivels and ramrod are present. The action functions correctly. If you collect European or French flintlock muskets, the Model 1822 is a must.
