NSN, .79 caliber, 46"" round smoothbore barrel circa 1780. Rare 4th Battery New Jersey marked 1756 Long Land Pattern Brown Bess flintlock musket who were Loyalist and fought for the crown. Overall good condition, metal is a dark brown patina with pin-prick surface oxidation visible. Barrel is marked ""4 BT NJV"", wood shows scattered dings, nicks and scratches a minor splice is noted in the front part of the stock, this does not take away from the rarity of this musket , sling swivles have been removed. Thumb piece is marked with ""E/38"", Lock plate has ""Crown over GR"" and ""TOWER"" behind the cock. The 4th New Jersey Volunteers fought in many battles during the Revolution, the most notable was Gorten Heights in 1781. The volunteers were under the command of the famous turncoat Benedict Arnold who during this battle ordered the massacre of surrendering Continental Army soldiers. Revolutionary War arms are hard to find but marked Loyalist arms are even harder!
