Antique Youth Flintlock Rifle
Description: Antique youth smoothbore flintlock musket. 17 ¾” round to octagon barrel. Caliber/gauge unknown. The musket features a walnut stock with an overall length of 32”. Perfect size for a young boy. The stock is walnut and the hardware is steel. The ram rod mounts and trigger guard are ornate. The stock is engraved throughout with a simple floral pattern. The forestock is fitted with a horn or bone cap. The musket is mechanically functioning. The hammer cocks and holds. Cosmetically, the condition is good for the age. The barrel and hardware have acquired a speckled brown patina consistent with age. The lock has minor pitting. The engraved walnut stock shows signs of period use. There is one chip in the stock near the lock plate. There is a hole in the stock below the cheek rest, possibly from a sling mount. The firearm appears to have been restored at some point. The ramrod is a modern replacement. It is unknown if the horn cap was added during period of use or later. The rifle is circa 1800-1840. SOLD |
