Hollywood Move Prop Gun 1884 Springfield Trapdoor-Flintlock Conversion Phil Spangenberger Collection 1950’s.
Description: Hollywood Move Prop Gun 1884 Springfield Trapdoor-Flintlock Conversion Phil Spangenberger Collection 1950’s. Here’s an opportunity to own not only a piece of early Hollywood Western movie history but also a true Springfield Trapdoor-Flintlock conversion, movie prop gun, owned by the late grate Phil Spangenberger. This is a BLANK FIRING GUN. 45-70 blanks I purchased this 1950’s “Movie Conversion” Trapdoor-Flintlock directly from the estate of the late Phil Spangenberger. Phil Spangenberg was a prolific historical gun writer for Ture West Magazine and Guns & Ammo. He was also a Film & TV firearms consultant. This Movie Conversion Trapdoor-Flintlock is the one pictured in the August 2018 True West Magazine in an article written by Phil Spangenberg titled “Hollywood’s Flintlock Fakery.” These Trapdoor-Flintlock conversion appeared in many Hollywood and Disney production in the 1950’s and 1960’s. I’m not sure who converted these old military Springfield Trapdoors to look like flintlocks, but I believe it was more than likely the gunsmiths for Stembridge Gun Rentals. Many of these conversions are attributed to Stembridge. These old trapdoor conversions were used in the Disney’s TV Series, Davy Crockett, and Daniel Boone. They were also used in the 1960’s John Wayne movie the Alamo, and the 1953 Glenn Ford, “The Man from the Alamo.” No doubt they were used in many 1950-1960’s movies and TV Westerns. To learn more about these conversion watch Forgotten Weapons “Movie Conversions-The Flintlock Trapdoor Springfield.” Overall, this is a very cool gun with a lot of early Hollywood history. Please see all pictures for overall condition. Also included is the August 2018 Ture West Magazine with the article by Phil Spangenberger. Please email if you have any questions or would like additional pictures. Thank you for looking. SOLD Antique: Yes |
