MARYLAND CONTRACT U.S. 1797 CONTRACT FLINTLOCK WAR OF 1812 MUSKET.
Description: MARYLAND CONTRACT U.S. 1797 CONTRACT FLINTLOCK WAR OF 1812 MUSKET. 43” smoothbore .69 cal. barrel stamped at the top breech with a “P” proof and “M” for the State of Maryland. Untouched and fine. 1005 original and complete. Made without provision for sling swivels and may be a ships musket. Initials “SP” carved on the left side of the stock opposite the lock and on the butt. Maker’s name stamped very faintly on the lock forward of the hammer but is illegible. May be the stamp of Abraham and William Henry who made a lock identical to this one. See Reilly p.67 fig. 159. There are also remnants of lettering on the plate that suggest this as well. The Henry firm of Nazareth, Pa. were contractors to Maryland at the time. Rare and extra nice. SOLD Antique: Yes |
