Here is a fine all original Deringer first contract rifle in original as-issued flintlock configuration. The Deringer frirst contract Model 1817 'Common Rifles' were not dated and as such this rifle bears no productiojn date. The original flintlock is marked with a large 'US/H. DERINGER / PHILADA' in three lines. The barrel is stamped at the breech with a large 'US, P, GF'. The barrel and mounts have a beautiful rich brown patina over the original brown factory lacquer finish and are virtually free of pitting or blemishes. The original touch hole is untouched and correct and the rifled 7 groove .54 caliber bore is in exceptional condition. All of the lock parts inside and out are original in uncleaned gun metal gray color. The lock mechanics are fine. The walnut stock is also in exceptional fine condition with a rich original oil finish and free of any damage. It has not been sanded or repaired in any way and does not show any chips, cracks, or mars. The rifle retains its original brass tipped ramrod, sling swivels, and fine screws. This is a very hard to find original flint rifle on the collectors market as many are found converted to percussion or reconverted to flint.
