OTTOMAN EMPIRE Antique BRASS BARRELED Early 1800s Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS
HIGHLY ORNATE, CARVED, & ENGRAVED Close Range Gun
Description: OTTOMAN EMPIRE Antique BRASS BARRELED Early 1800s Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS HIGHLY ORNATE, CARVED, & ENGRAVED Close Range Gun Here we present an antique Highly Ornate, Carved, and Engraved Ottoman Empire Brass Barreled Flintlock Blunderbuss, made circa the early 1800s. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel. They are flared at the muzzle, frequently throughout the entire bore, and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range. A blunderbuss in handgun form was called a Dragon, and it is from this that the term “Dragoon” evolved. The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy and devastating weapon at close range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for Naval boarding or defending vessels, stagecoach and messenger companies, home defense and more. It was capable of firing up to 20 buckshot in front of 120 grains of black powder, according to Spencer Tucker in Almanac of American Military History, Volume 1. This particular example could have been used in the War of 1812 on the side that didn’t win! The overall condition is very good. Engravings/carvings remain deeply carved on the metal and wood. Robust action. The bore is dark and remains good. Light verdigris is present. Aged patina on the brass barrel and on the inside of the triggerguard. A blunderbuss such as this, is what most people imagine a pirate crew using to commandeer an unsuspecting ship! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 16-3/8 inches. Caliber: Approximately 16 Gauge flaring to 1-1/4 inches the muzzle. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
