PENNSYLVANIA Antique FLINTLOCK Long Rifle
Description: PENNSYLVANIA Antique FLINTLOCK Long Rifle Attributed to Lehigh Valley Maker Here we present an antique Pennsylvania Flintlock Long Rifle, made circa the late-18th Century, attribute to Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. The American Longrifle, more commonly, but less correctly, known as the 'Kentucky rifle', was described by Captain John G. W. Dillin in the dedication to his seminal 1924 book, The Kentucky Rifle: “From a flat bar of soft iron, hand forged into a gun barrel; laboriously bored and rifled with crude tools; fitted with a stock hewn from a maple tree in the neighboring forest; and supplied with a lock hammered to shape on the anvil; an unknown smith, in a shop long since silent, fashioned a rifle which changed the whole course of world history; made possible the settlement of a continent; and ultimately freed our country of foreign domination. Light in weight; graceful in line; economical in consumption of powder and lead; fatally precise; distinctly American; it sprang into immediate popularity; and for a hundred years was a model often slightly varied but never radically changed.” This musket has been attributed to a maker in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. The lock is marked “LONDON/WARRANTED”. It features a full-length stock with a wooden patch box and handsome striping. Hardware is of brass. The barrel is 40 inches and octagonal with a .45 caliber smooth bore. Top of the barrel is equipped with rifle sights. The overall condition is near fine. The barrel bears much of the original finish with the remainder turning an even plum with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in great shape with a chip at the toe and a small repaired sliver on the right side near the muzzle. The bore is smooth and dusty. The action on this rifle is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is your quintessential early American flintlock musket from the cradle of American gunsmithing itself! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 40 inches. Caliber: .45 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
