Description: This rare firearm is stamped on the butt just above the plate , with the official macaron, double circled with the letters EF(EMPIRE FRANCAISE ) , The date 1812 , and DC, F, J IN THE CIRCLE, a J.D in italics below the rest. The carbine has a 25 inch barrel, and is 40 1/2 '' long over all. The barrel is dated on top 1811, near the flash hole, there is another E.F near the flash hole and a C ,along with tiny oval, inspectors mark. Under the butt on the the bottom is signed NOEL, for NICOLAS-NOEL BOUTET, NAPOLEONS gun smith. On the lock plate is the inspectors mark a DB, FOR POINCON DE DANIEL BOUYSSAVY , the rest reads, RE ,M,IMP LE DE VENSAILLES. On the brass ramrod holder is an italicized D for 1er CONTROLLER DESCHASEAUX and on the brass trigger guard. The patina is perfect over all , the original gun strap holder in perfect shape as is the original ramrod, All the guns part a strong and tight and well marked. The seven rifling are amazing for the period and my understand took three workmen long periods to cut in. The An x11 modele carbine was the highest quality firearm issued to the GRANDE ARMEE with strictly limited distribution. As a general rule, two were allotted to the best marksmen in Velites of the guard ,and to the light companies of skirmishers of the line; Versailles records show that a total of 2212 were issued and a further 80 allotted to the MAMELUCKS. A rare opportunity to acquire a most handsome and scarce carbine. 859-533-5445 SOLD Manufacturer: VERSAILLES,,NICOLAS-NOEL BOUTET Model: 1812 ,MODEL X11 Condition: Above good Metal Condition: above good Wood Condition: good to above Bore Condition: good Barrels: 7 rex Barrel Type: 7 rex Triggers: good Finish: walnut?
