RARE E. WATERS & CO. Massachusetts State CONTRACT M1808 FLINTLOCK Musket 69 WAR of 1812 Early US Military | Militia Arm
Description: RARE E. WATERS & CO. Massachusetts State CONTRACT M1808 FLINTLOCK Musket 69
WAR of 1812 Early US Military | Militia Arm
Here we present an antique E. Waters & Co. Flintlock Musket, manufactured circa 1814 in Millbury, Massachusetts. This pattern musket is featured and discussed on pages 222 and 223 of American Military Shoulder Arms, Volume 2: From the 1790s to the End of the Flintlock Period by George Moller. This musket was one of the 528 muskets delivered to the state of Massachusetts in 1814 through General Joseph Farnsworth who took over E. Waters & Co. in 1814. Parts of the upper line of the “P/US” and “M/1814” markings noted by Moller remain visible on the breech end of the barrel, and the lock is marked “MILLBURY./1814.” It has a bayonet stud on the top of the barrel and a brass blade front side on the rear strap of the upper barrel band.
The overall condition is very good. Strong action. Original flintlock. The bore is in good shape for its age. The stock is well preserved and in good condition with only a thin split along the grain on the right side of the forend. This is a fantastic and original flintlock format militia arm from New England, made for the War of 1812 to repel the British!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 44-3/4 inches.
