New England flintlock militia musket-fowler by A Wright& Co., Poughkeepsie, NY. Overall length is approximately 57½". The 42" round .69 caliber smoothbore barrel has a good bore with scattered roughness. Stock is fine with no chips. The checkering at the wrist is sharp but worn. The metal is gray with lightly scattered staining. Barrel is pin-fastened to the stock. There are stock repairs at the barrel tang. Barrel is marked “A. Wright & Co. PO.Keepsie" with decorative engraving around it. Breech is marked “US/NWP/Sunken P." The lock and cock are lightly engraved with the lock having a bird toward the tail. The right side of the stock has a small crack at the barrel, just in forward of the middle thimble. The nose cap, three thimbles, butt plate, side plate, and trigger guard are brass. There is a blank German silver escutcheon on the wrist. Alexander Wright operated in Poughkeepsie circa 1835-1846. The lock features a roller frizzen. It functions correctly. These New England flintlock militia musket-fowlers are rarely encountered, especially with Martial barrel inspections. Don’t miss this one! (AL5127)
