ULTRA RARE KING GEORGE III INDIAN WARRIOR’S PRESENTATION PATTERN 1816 FLINTLOCK RIFLE BY HENRY TATHAM FOR SERVICE IN THE WAR OF 1812. Only 90 of this pattern rifle were authorized to be made by the King at the end of the War of 1812 to be gifted to certain high ranking members of the Five Nations tribes who rendered loyal service to the Crown during the War. Certainly one of only a tiny handful surviving and in superb all original condition. Royal Ordnance inspected at the breech of the rifled .60 cal. Damascus browned barrel and with original blued two leaf folding rear and nickel bead front sights. Large platinum George III Royal Cypher intaglio cartouche at the breech between two platinum bands. Lock and blued steel mounts beautifully engraved with martial motifs and English scroll. Finely articulated small size rifle lock with lovely engraving and the hand engraved maker’s name “TATHAM”. Walnut stock with checkered wrist with Royal Ordnance “BROAD ARROW/R” and opposing “BROAD ARROW” stamps ahead of the patch box. In superb condition with nearly all the case colors on the lock and brown plum Damascus finish on the barrel. Stock with the original finish with small chip on left forend. Steel patch box with most of the original bright blue. Lock in working order and exceptional bright bore with crisp rifling. To our knowledge only one other of this rare rifle exists in similar condition and it is in the Royal Armouries Museum , Leeds. (Ref. BRITISH MILITARY RIFLES 1740-1840. DeWitt Bailey. pp.177-184.)
