Here we present an antique Thomas French Contract Model 1808 Flintlock Musket, manufactured circa 1813 in Canton, Massachusetts. Thomas French was one of 19 gunmakers contracted by the U.S. government to manufacture the Model 1808 Musket. The group of French, Blake and Adam Kinsley was awarded this U.S. Contract on October 20, 1808 for 4,000 Harpers Ferry Pattern Model 1808 Contract Muskets with all believed delivered between 1809 and 1814.

The War of 1812 was a conflict lasting about three years that was fought between the United States and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The conflict began when the United States declared war in June of 1812 and ended in a restoration of the pre-war status quo when a peace treaty agreed to earlier was ratified by the United States in February 1815. Its eventual consequences included the establishment of a separate Canadian state and an end of hopes for an independent American Indian confederation in the Northwest opening the way for the western expansion of the United States.

This example has an "1813" date marked at the tail of the lock with "US" in an oval above "T. FRENCH" at the center. Includes a socket bayonet.

Re-varnished stock shows less than average wear. The action partially functions as it does not fully cock. Re-converted lock. Obfuscated markings. Missing rear barrel band spring. The bore is dark. Oversized buttplate. Good bayonet.
