"American Heavy Barrel .40 Caliber Percussion Rifle (AL5244)(DTX)
Description:
"American heavy barrel .40 caliber percussion rifle. Rifle is unmarked as to maker. Lock is marked “J. Tarratt/ warranted". J. Tarratt is listed in Frank Sellers book, American Gunsmiths, as having markings on locks and barrels as “J. Tarratt & Sons", no location found. This is a very well-made rifle. Barrel length 34". The first 16" being round and flat on top where the adjustable rear sight is located. The front 18" of barrel is not as thick as the rear part and is 1.25" in diameter. Barrel is double keyed. Overall length of rifle is 49". This is a half stock target rifle with peep hooded rear sight (with elevation wheel) and has a Rocky Mountain blade front sight. Rifle has an adjustable set trigger. The lock works perfectly. This rifle is embellished with several silver inlays. The patch box is large and proficiently engraved as are other inlays of silver. Patch box opens by depressing a button on the tang of the butt plate. Bore has perfect rifling and is mirror bright. (Dallas Location)
