British Pattern 2** Snider .577 Centerfire infantry rifle. The Snider is a cartridge conversion of the muzzle-loading Enfield rifle-musket. The pattern 2** was introduced in May 1867. Rifle has the 36½" round barrel with excellent bore. The exposed finish has been warned to smooth bright during use. Wood is good with approximately 2½" loss at the ramrod channel between the top two bands. Round Enfield stamp over a “2" is visible on butt stock. Lock is marked “1863" over “Enfield". Breech block is marked is marked “B.S.A. Co." and various other inspection stamps / marks expected of a British arm of this age. Action works correctly. Early Snider’s like this one is hard to find.
