"British Snider Whaling Gun (AL5514) DTX

Description:
"This is an unusual and rarely seen whaling gun that is made from a British Mark III Snider carbine. The overall length is approx. 37.25"". The round approx. 60 caliber 19"" smooth bore barrel has a good dark bore. This gun fires a blank harpoon propelling cartridge that is likely based on the .577 Snider cartridge. The diameter of the barrel is 1.325"". The barrel and action have a smooth brown patina. The brass trigger guard and buttplate have an uncleaned patina. The case hardened lock is marked B.S.A.&M. Co. over 1885 with a small crown forward and the crown over V.R. at the tail. The stock is good with a large poorly repaired split on the right butt. The action functions correctly.
