Harpers Ferry Model 1816 two-band percussion altered rifle. Overall length is approximately 46”. The 30½” round .69 caliber barrel has a fair bore. This musket was altered to percussion by the Belgian cone-in-barrel method. The hammer has a small “2” on it. The barrel has the “V/P/ (traces of eagle)” at the breech. All metal has a dark brown patina. The lock has the eagle/ “US” and “Harpers/ Ferry/1828”. The stock is good with the dents and dings of an issued gun. There are no sling swivels. The action functions correctly. Shortened muskets, like this one, may have been used military schools. This is a good representative example of a Civil War era two-band musket.
