Description:
"NSN. Made in 1882. .58 caliber with a 24" barrel. This is an Indian Trade Musket by Barnett that has both a shortened barrel and stock. The lock is marked “Barnett/ LONDON/ 1882" These trade muskets were made much later than the age of percussion guns with the idea of giving the Indians inferior guns since this was both a percussion gun (which took much longer to load than a cartridge gun" and it being a shotgun barrel (which made the usable distance very limited.) The lock has the “tombstone" fox marking which is a Fox over the “EB" letters. Both the stock and barrel have been shortened to a carbine length. The gun has the serpentine sideplate and the large thin trigger guard which you fine on Indian trade guns. (Dallas Location)
