This 1864-dated percussion Colt Model 1861 Special Musket in in the condition collectors love to find. The 58 caliber 40"" round barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling with a little frosting in the grooves. The barrel is dated 1864 on the top flat, stamped with the V over P over eagle inspection marks to the left, and M.N.M inspection stamp on the left flat. All the metal retains its original bright finish. There are a few small dings on the edges of the barrel flats. The lock is stamped in the center U.S. over COLT'S PT F.A. MFG CO. over HARTFORD CT. and 1864 at the tail. The bolster has a very strong and clear eagle stamp. The stock is excellent with a few storage nicks and dings and two clear, strong cartouches. The swivels and ramrod are present. The action functions correctly. Many of the Colt Special muskets went to states such as New Jersey and were so marked. However, this musket went to the Union Army as it lacks any state marks. You will never need to upgrade this Colt Special Musket!
