**RARE** US Model 1863 Lindsay's Patent US "Double Musket"....LAYAWAY
Description: REDUCED $250.....**RARE** US Model 1863 Lindsay's Patent US "Double Musket"....LAYAWAY?......58 caliber. 41.125" round barrel secured by three rounded screw clamping bands. SN: NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock. Double shot, single barrel, muzzleloading superimposed load percussion rifle musket. Top of patent breech marked in two lines: LINDSAY / PATENTED OCT. 9, 1860. Counterpane with two crisp script ADK cartouches, the mark if inspector A.D. King. Unique single trigger, double hammer mechanism that is the forerunner of the single trigger systems used on many double barrel shotguns today, with the right hammer always tripping with the first pull of the trigger and the left with the second pull. Retains correct pattern 1861 short base rear sight with musket style combination front sight/socket bayonet lug. Retains both sling swivels and correct, full-length straight shank ramrod with tulip head. Only 1,000 of these scarce and somewhat dangerous rifle muskets were produced and procured by the Ordnance Department in 1864 and the guns were primarily issued to the 15th, 16th & 26th Michigan and 9th New Hampshire infantry regiments. Some reports from the field were catastrophic, so the guns were universally reviled and some were apparently intentionally destroyed by the men they were issued to. A scarce and important Civil War long gun and a good example of how some ideas are better on paper than in practice. PROVENANCE ex-Horn Foundation - formerly on loan to the Frazier History Museum. CONDITION: VERY FINE to EXCELLENT.... Metal with some old discolored traces of oil with a smooth steel gray appearance and crisp markings. Mechanically functional, very good bore with strong rifling and some light oxidation. Fine stock with crisp cartouches and edges and showing some scattered bumps, dings and minor marks. Wood retains some feathery texture...S/H $60...2nd firearm ships FREE, with this one. Thanks.....Greg Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Lindsay Price: $4,500.00 Buy Now Contact Seller |
