1865 Dated Antique G. MORDANT Two Band .58 PERCUSSION Minie Rifle CIVIL WAR Percussion Rifle Manufactured in Liege
Description: 1865 Dated Antique G. MORDANT Two Band .58 PERCUSSION Minie Rifle CIVIL WAR Percussion Rifle Manufactured in Liege Here we present an antique Belgian Pattern 1856 G. Mordant Two Band Minie Rifle Manufacture circa 1865 in Liege, Belgium. The Minié rifle was an important Civil War infantry rifle of the mid-19th century. A version was adopted in 1849 following the invention of the Minié ball in 1847 by the French Army captain Claude-Étienne Minié of the Chasseurs d' Orléans and Henri-Gustave Delvigne. The bullet was designed to allow rapid muzzle loading of rifles and was an innovation that brought about the widespread use of the rifle as the main battlefield weapon for individual soldiers. The French adopted it following difficulties encountered by the French army in North Africa, where their muskets were outranged by long-barreled weapons which were handcrafted by their Algerian opponents. This is a direct copy of the famed and proven Enfield design so popular during the 1850s and 1860s across the British Empire as well as in the United States during the American Civil War. G. Mordant was a Liege maker registered from 1850-1876 who had several patents in his own name for needle fire technology, both rifle and revolver. The overall condition is very good. Gray patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is dim with strong rifling. The stock shows much use and has some interesting battle damage just forward of the rear sling swivel. Otherwise solid. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32-3/8 inches. Caliber: .58 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2000 #240115 SOLD Antique: Yes |
