American Percussion Long Rifle with Joseph Golcher Lock
Description: NSN, .36 Caliber, 42" octagon barrel with a good bore that has dark freckling within the grooves. This is an attractive rifle that has an overall dark plum-brown patina on the barrel and "JOSe GOLCHER" marked percussion lock. There are scattered small spots of freckling present throughout, as well as some light-moderate pitting concentrated on and around the nipple drum, which has an unusual "winged" plug on the end. The double-set trigger is fully functional, however the hammer does not catch at either half or full-cock. The pin-fastened stock has an attractive "tiger stripe" grain with numerous decorative inlays along the forend, as well as a pair of German silver fish inlays on either side of the buttstock, an American Eagle on the cheek-piece, an engraved brass sideplate, and an attractive pierced brass patchbox frame. The wood has numerous minor handling marks and small blemishes scattered throughout the old oil finish, with an irregular crack on the right side of the forend near the muzzle, as well as a few narrow chips along the edges of the forend wood on either side. A period iron-tipped wooden replacement ramrod is included. This is a great looking American percussion long rifle, and would make a fine decorative accent for a gun room, den, or study.
