Antique STILLMAN JACKSON Full-Stock “MULE EAR” Percussion American RIFLE
SCARCE Mid-1800s HUNTING/HOMESTEAD Rifle
Description: Antique STILLMAN JACKSON Full-Stock “MULE EAR” Percussion American RIFLE SCARCE Mid-1800s HUNTING/HOMESTEAD Rifle Here we present an antique Stillman Jackson Full-Stock “Mule Ear” Percussion Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century in Palmyra, New York. Jackson was an active gunmaker in Palmyra between 1829 and 1855. Its stout octagonal barrel is chambered in .42 caliber, large enough to take small to medium sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. Rifle manufacture in the mid-to-late 19th Century was rapidly changing over from thousands of craftsmen all over the United States and on the Frontier making and selling their wares, to the large factories with standardized assembly lines and modern manufacturing techniques. Many makers’ names of the rifles have been lost over time. This rifle is one such example. The Mule Ear lock was invented in the United States somewhere around the mid-1830s. The history is pretty blurred as to who, where, and when the first one was made. It is believed that likely due to its appearance, much like an underhammer, it lacked general acceptance. These were not equipped with a half cock position. The overall condition is very good. Original brown patina. Strong action. The bore is semi-bright with nice rifling. Solid maple stock overall with average handling wear, grain splits, and dings. Sharp markings. The powder horn is in good shape. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 35-3/4 inches. Caliber: .42 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2450 #247626 SOLD Antique: Yes |
